open source IDE (Integrated Development Environment).
That means, it’s free! Go ahead and download
it and give it a try. You may also want to take a look at

- Eclipse - Eclipse is also
an open source IDE (Integrated Development Environment).
Again, it’s free! Go ahead and download it
and give it a try. Some people swear by Eclipse.
- Netbeans Tutotial - A
“quickstart” tutorial from the folks at
netbeans.org.
- Tutotial Collection - A
collecion of Netneans tutorials, including some that
deal with advanced topics.
- Java Source Code - So,
do you want to know about how the String class really works?
What’s really going on in System.out? Just follow
this link, register, and download all the source code
in Java!
- Java API documentation - The
standard Javadoc API documentation. Everything you need
to know about all the classes provided by
Sun for your dancing and dining pleasure!
- Download the SDK and
JRE - This is where you get the Java 5 SDK
(Software Development Kit) you need to write your own
Java programs. If you want, you can get the Java 5 JRE
(Java Runtime Environment) needed to run Java programs
that have already been compiled. No need to get the JRE
if you’ve already got the SDK.
- Open Office - Can’t
read the syllabus because you don’t have Microsoft
Word on your machine? No problem! Just download a copy of
Open Office and it’ll read Word documents just fine.
